- the TRD subsystem contributes significantly to the electron ID of CBM
- four detector layers, PE foam-based radiators and MWPCs
- comparatively soft TR spectrum ensures a high TR yield, combined with optimised (thin) entrance region of the MWPCs
Foreseen activity:
- beamtime application at PS
. mixed beam (e, π, μ), range of about 2 to 5 GeV (PS T9?)
. 2 or 3 layers of TRD (~ 1 m^2 detectors)
plus PID reference, e.g. Pb glass calorimeter
OR
pure e and π beams subsequently, if purity confirmed
. position reference, Si strip detectors (optionally)
. readout with CBM DAQ, to be installed on site
. periph. systems, i.e. LV, HV and gas on site
- motivation: measurement of e and π with detectors from series production and final read-out electronics as PID reference

Milestone tracker for TRD @ CBM

the CBM rebaselining 2023 is ongoing, i.e. milestones and the project plan is updated to the current perspectives, and of course also the TRD plans are to be revised as part of this process. TC and the overall situation are asking us to ensure a new level of reliability. Should not be too solemn wording now, but seems, for own interest, we shall stick to the dates we are tagging.
As a large system, luckily we have a comparatively low number of milestones in direct connection with the overall project plan. Connected are, e.g., the mechanics of the TRD mainframe to the subframe and the pipes plus (LV + HV) cables in the service shaft.
Please find attached, the milestones which are to be scheduled. Some points have strong interconnection between our institutes, as mainframe and radiator and gas system. Propose to exchange in a meeting. We could dedicate Wed 01. Feb 14:00 (GSI), in this round. If it does not fit, kindly ask to reply with alternative suggests, think this is most efficient. Seeing forward to your replies.

According to the discussion from our last meeting I attach here the geometry creation macro for the cases :
- 71 cm layer spacing; 30 cm radiator thickness
- 66 cm layer spacing; 25 cm radiator thickness
- 61 cm layer spacing; 20 cm radiator thickness
each time the geometry name is the same i.e. 18b_1e so that there is no need to change any other configuration file (geom setup, params, etc). Pls let me know if this is enough to run some simulations + digitization to asses the influence of layer spacing on tracking efficiency. Please feel free to put this task wherever you think on your todo list. I don't want to impede on your more urgent tasks

Hi Alex,I made a quick test run over 10 Events, it finished successfully but in the digitization there are a lot of warnings like:

I also attached the output raw.root file if you want to have a look. If you say that this is ok, then I would start simulations with more events. -
