Description
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) movie presents Romanian experience on irradiation treatment of cultural heritage (CH) artifacts. Disinfestations efficiency is indisputable and comparative advantages are certain and accepted: speediness (the treatment duration takes hours), penetrability (large objects of any form may be treated), simplicity (the object may be treated in its transport package), composite objects could be efficiently treated, no toxic or radioactive residue is left in the object after treatment, quite reasonable cost. The reluctance of the conservators-restorers related to utilization of this CH preservation method disappeared in Romania. This is one of the most important results of R&D projects focused on preservation of polychrome wood (92-086) and paper (92-083). And this is the reason Romanian achievements were appreciated by IAEA - Vienna.
