The High Intensity gamma Source (HIgS) facility at Duke University is unique world facility and it will permit us to address one of the oldest key problem - the production of oxygen in stellar helium burning. I will discuss a new approach for measuring the fusion of helium plus carbon using real photon beam and an oxygen target which also serves as the detection medium. The UConn-Yale-Weizmann-PTB-UCL-TUNL collaboration fabricated the required O-TPC detector and is ready to accept gamma beams at the HIgS facilty of TUNL at Duke University. |
