The facilities and research at the Institut fur Kernphysik of the University of Cologne will be presented. The Institute owns a 10MV Tandem accelerator with eight equipped beamlines allowing a wide range of different nuclear structure experiments to be performed in house. Besides these the Institute is highly involved in radioactive beam experiments at REX-ISOLDE (CERN) and RISING (GSI). For these experiments a new position sensitive Ge detector array, called AGATA, is in construction which will allow to perform gamma-ray tracking inside the Ge crystal. The Institute operates also a prompt gamma-ray analysis (PGA) installation at the new neutron source FRM-2 using a very high intensity cold neutron beam. Finally, a new 6MV AMS spectrometer will be installed in 2010. |
