Dr. Angela Bracco (University of Milano, INFN, Italy), Study of the gamma decay of the pygmy resonance

Europe/Bucharest
Description
The detail study of the electric dipole response of nuclei is presently attracting particular attention both experimentally and theoretically. Indeed the understanding of the low energy region of the electric dipole response function is interesting not only to provide stringent tests to models of collective modes and of the nuclear equation of state but also for its astrophysical implications in the r-process and in the physics of neutron stars.

This seminar will focus mainly on the gamma decay of the pygmy resonance in the unstable nucleus 68Ni as studied with relativistic radioactive beams with RISING at GSI. A model dependent analysis has been made to extract information on the neutron skin.

The possibility to investigate with high resolution the fine structure below the particle separation energy is being investigated in the case of stable nuclei with the AGATA array. In this connection the excitation with different probes is interesting to understand better the nature of these states.
