Description

This paper presents some of the most important points connected with the 1972 Herceg-Novi Radionuclide Metrology Summer School and its impact on the forthcoming evolution of the field, as follows: (i) Topics of the conference, their state of the art at that moment and recommendations for future developments, as published in the journal Nuclear Instruments and Methods 112 (1973)1-398, (NIM 1973). Each section is shortly analyzed and some concluding remarks are formulated. (ii) Determining influence of this event over the subsequent development of the Romanian Laboratory of Radionuclide Metrology and a short description of our research areas, such as: absolute methods of standardization (coincidence and LSC), preparation of all kind of radioactive standard sources and their use in assurance of Romanian metrological traceability chain, gamma-ray spectrometry methods. Participation of our Laboratory, representing the Horia Hulubei National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering, IFIN-HH, at the ICRM activities both as active members and as presenters of scientific papers at all conferences, starting with the year 1991. (iii) People participant at the school and places, such as a young participant perceived then and remembers today. Some impressions about the distinguished professors and other participants and subsequent collaborations are recollected. The nice location of the school, resort Herceg Novi on Adriatic Sea border, and excursions in Kotor Bay and Dubrovnik are illustrated.
As a privileged participant at that event, I thank you, the Program Committee, for offering me the possibility to bring in your attention a 50-years old event, I send my warm salutations to our participant colleagues who are not present here, but I hope to be in a good health state, and propose to commemorate those who passed away.
